Go Up Go Down

I had a very strange day at the Santa Cruz Beach and Boardwalk this morning.

I arrived just before sunrise this morning and started gridding one of the volleyball areas.  After about 15 minutes, another MD'er arrives.  We greet eachother, he sees I'm gridding and proceeds his own search of the same area.  I realize I'm not getting many hits, so I move toward the water and start gridding another area in front of a lifeguard tower.  About 20 minutes later, this guy moves toward me and starts working an area about 20 feet away and in the direction I am moving.  So I pick up and move again.  Sure enough, about 30 minutes later, he's wondering through my grid again... this time crossing about five feet in front of me.

Now, I'm kinda new to this hobby, but if I saw someone obviously gridding an area, I might say hello and talk about how the day is going, but I certainly wouldn't start working the same area.  This was too weird and made me very uncomfortable.  Am I being too territorial?

On another note, a ten-year-old boy approached me this morning and said his mother lost her wedding ring.  It appeared his family had been searching for a while.  I went to the area, asked her to describe the ring and the approximate area, then started in.  Five minutes later, I recovered my first ring!

Raider Regards!

We are seeing more and more of this and there is not much that can be done about it. But remember this is the same person that tries to cut in line at the store etc just ignore them they want find much anyway to worried about what you are doing. Just keep up hunting and it will come.

When that type of things happens, I just say good luck and walk on down the road a bit.

Yes... which is what I was doing, but then my shadow kept following me.

Overall a good day.  I had two areas where I picked up seven or eight coins each... like a pocket spill.  Sometimes I would scoop and pull two at the same time.  That's fun!  Helping the lady find her ring was fun too.

Raider Regards,

Helping the gal find her ring was Magic!   Keep up the good deeds and it will come back to you. Cool

Here are a couple of suggestions for handling your shadow:

Ask him if he needs any tips on finding a good spot to hunt.   And if he says yes you basically have three options:
1) give him a tip like "spend some time looking to see where people are shaking out their blankets and then hunt about 10 to 20ft from there after they leave"
2) give him the name and meeting location for a local club and suggest he join
3) give him our url and suggest he become a THunting.com member

Ask him what he does for a living or if he like to fish.    If he tells you he's in sales or something like that or he says "yeah, I like to fish", ask him how he feels when someone steals his prospect or throws their line in where he's trying to fish.   And then explain to him that not only is what he is doing the same thing, but that you're trying to work on your technique and you can't do that if he's crossing into your grid......doubt if it will work, but who knows----he might just be new enough that he doesn't understand the technique.

I have a option for this situation ,approach him politely and tell him you searching  for pull tubs Shocked and cans to collect aluminum ,and if he help you searching on other side we both can cover more grounds and he to can  have a reward collecting for  scrap yard, they pay reasonable money for aluminum you know.

Talk 'bout karma!

The wife is away while I hold down the fort, so I decided to hit the beach last Tuesday.  I was there for about an hour.  What did I find?  A nice little "LOVE" ring with "925" stamped inside.  I looked up the stamp this morning and discovered it's MY FIRST SILVER!  Clapp

I helped a family find a ring on Sunday and I find a keeper the following Tuesday.  I've been at this for just over a month and this is the kind of thing the will keep me hunting.

Raider Regards!
