Go Up Go Down

It was late summer and I was hunting the grass strip between the sidewalk and street in an old, rather wealthy part of town. There were several porches of people watching me hunt, while enjoying a beautiful sunset. Soon an elderly gentleman came down and started asking the usual questions. He mentioned his grandson was visiting and wanted to know if he could "try hunting" in their yard. It turns out he was born both mute and blind.
I explained the basics and with his grandfather as a guide, they began to scan the yard. It was not long before he began to find things. At first the usual junk showed up but soon he could tell the difference and was scoring some deep hits.
By now, all the neighbors had de-porched and a small crowd gathered to watch him hunt. The smile on his face as he unearthed these treasures brought a tear to you eyes. I don't think I have ever seen such an expression of excitement without any sound being made.

Very nice. It is always a pleasure to share whatever your hobby to kids. They may not always end up doing it for very long , but they will always remember the time you took.

I spent about 2 hrs teaching him   when he finaly got it he told the whole apt complex
Saw him 5 yrs later and he came and showed me that he still could tie his shoes
Kind of choked me up but will never forget it

I am currently trying to help a wheelchair bound disabled vet get into this. His wife is very supportive as well as his son. Hope to have him out and about before too long. It always feels good to help others out. Thanks for sharing your story.

I'm sure the time you spent there meant the world to that little boy & even more to his Grandpap to see him
having fun. You should feel good for the happiness a little bit of  your time allowed. I almost never hunt
kids playgrounds for me, I like to go & let the kids follow me around like the pied piper & let them take turns
scratching thru the mulch or gravel & let them keep what 'they' find. I do the same thing at the beach along
the mountain lake where our camp is. MD'ing at times gets enough bad press, we need more folks like you
in our hobby. Way to go.
