Well depends on what you wanted to hunt, what kind of detector you want, and local and state laws. But you may do better selling the shovel than digging the gold. Author an Ebook. Weather makes a difference, some areas you can only hunt a few months out of the a year. You have gold hunters, and prospectors, meteorite hunters, and coin hunters, and even Artifact hunters. After seeing nuggets the size of a mans head being pulled out of the ground in Austrailia I believe, I would say that would be a good place to start. There is other kinds of rich, quality of life. I dont think hunting clad or coins would produce results for a nice lifestyle. Gold can be found, artifacts and meteorites would be in the middle. Correct me if Im wrong. Im tickled to be finding stuff period. Good Luck with fame and fortune.

Florida or Texas
But if your talking about just coin shooting you picked a long row to hoe.
The folks that make a living treasure hunting are the cache hunters with years of research and are willing to drag home every bottle plow blade etc that they find to pay the rent.
You need to find an outlet to sale your finds you need the tools and skills to repair your finds. There is a lot more to full time treasure hunting then just swinging a detector.

Australia is far to big to be "hunted out" and the problem here now is available land to use. Crown land is open land. Pastoral land is land in use for other purposes which may be used for prospecting - sometimes with permission, sometimes not. Leased land is not open land and cannot be used for casual prospecting without permission.

Thus, the issues here are all to do with how much gold is to be found on Crown or pastoral lands. Not much. There are a few places which get pounded pretty good but the glory days of 8 ounce nuggets seem to be a thing of the past.

In the United States you would be well placed to live in the mid south where you could travel a day and be in the cradle of the Civil War in one direction and the Revolutionary War in the other. Human occupation will have those places giving up very old valuables. A day drive to the sea on the east is also a plus and you would do well to invest in a camper or motor home.

I live in New Mexico, we get about 2" of rain a year. Makes for hard ground, but plenty of ruins, local parks, mine trailings, and old buildings to coin hunt for. I live here for my arthritus. Phoenix is hotter, but you hear about gold being found in Arizona.

Went to Prescott back in 1993 to do some sluicing and got snowed out. We were right by Phelps Dodge copper mining operation. Looked like they were ripping the whole earth apart there. only got to spend one day there. We came from skull valley detecting looking for nuggets. We ended up by the Calif border.
