Go Up Go Down

Detecting I've been away from metal detecting for some years now with kids and would like to get back into it. Could someone recommend a good metal detector that has good detection? I would hate to buy a metal detector and find out later that I should have bought something else. Thank you in advance Ken

Ken, assuming you will be hunting yards and parks and schoolgrounds for coins, an excellent starter machine is the Garrett Ace 250.  There are a lot of videos on YouTube.com that show you how to use that particular machine.

I fully agree to Dan. The Ace 250 will get you started. If you budget is bigger you might also consider a pre-owned Tesoro such as e.g. the Lobo Supertraq which is a fantastic machine, too.

Christian, the Lobo is a gold-specific machine which does a great job on gold, but it's no better on coins (maybe even worse) than a lot of lower-priced general-purpose detectors.  For coins, a Tesoro Compadre is a great beginner's machine.

It for sure depends on what you want to spend. There are a lot of good machines out there at some really good prices. I loved my old whites coinmaster until it finally fell apart and was beyond repair. When I checked out their new detectors the prices on the machines I was interested in were higher than I was willing to pay.
I looked on Kellyco's web site and found the MP series and Bounty hunter had some really good detectors at great prices. I ended up buying the MP3 Pro cause it was the lightest in my price range (Cheap) and my old body likes less weight.
The bottom line is the technology in these new low priced machines is amazing compared to what was available just a few years ago and as long as you buy from a reputable dealer like Kellyco you will not regret your purchase.
