I was wondering if anybody has any ideas on a cheap but effective metal detector I dont have thousands of dollars to invest into this as this is a hobby that me and my son would like to goet into we have a few places to try but no equipment if there is not really any out there can someone tell me is the best to build from the schematics they have here I am pretty apt with electronics and could do with some advice thanks in advance

If your doing mostly dirt I suggest the Garrett Ace 250. At about $200. (U.S.) it is an easy to pick up detector with alot of things the higher end detectors have.

i agree..for 212.45 you get a pretty good detector plus you also recieve some free stuff.
i purchased one and find it to be very good.has good range,pinpointing, an all around
machine.the first week-end i had it, i found 49$ in clad. it will pay for itself quick.

Here in Australia the Ace250 costs about $465.00 mostly due to customs import duties. This isn't an inexpensive option here. The comparable model here would be one of these:
