Hi. Any body used military mine detectors? If any one used for detecting for gold nuggets, or coins?

They're useless for such targets. Buy one made for coin and nugget hunting.

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.

Kumayre.:
My father and I used a military detector (WWII era) in the late 1950's, (before there was a Garrett or any other well known brand) wasn't much use for coin hunting and had a huge 125 volt battery that was only available in Phoneix..... Dr. Roy Roush used a later model in the late 1970's and 1980's. His had 4 coils, set inside a larger square coil, about 10 or 12 inches wide. But I agree with Gold Digger, it's best to purchase a detector that is designed for the job.

I am really new to this game having picked up a couple of used Bounty Hunters and tried just one day.  Depth is what occurs to be lacking the most.  Perhaps a military machine, even if it is limited by detecting all metals, will search deeper and a second pass then could be made with a more discriminating detector over the tailings.  I will welcome any advise as well especially concerning  how to do things well but cheaply---like building detectors.     san

I used the german made ebinger ebex 420 PBd to find land mines. Itis awesome and I would like to have it again. If anything, it is too awesome. It will have you digging for hours and hours as it even can detect the different magnetism of different soil layers. You can use discrimination, though.

Thanks for reply back, I would like to know latest mine detectors models. Now making more sensitive and more smallest object. How about mine detectors Vallon VMH3CS and VMC1 models.

 Smiley  Thanks LostViking
This type of detector is what I am thinking about.  Something that will seek deeply and find all metals.  An object holding precious metals may not be constructed of a material that will be found by a detector dedicated to a specific metal.  Or a large lot of precious metal may be missed because the depth capabilities are lacking.  Secondary searches with more dedicated equipment could aid in discrimination once all detected objects are being further persued.
Any ideas of how to obtain this detector and cost?  Will look for your reply.

Hi!

Yes, this does not have any special programs to eliminate stuff. You do have your sensitivity settings, though. If you know you are looking for let's say keys that are newly dropped in high grass, you can eliminate everything less than a similar key by calibrating it to leave less stuff out.

There are no funny programs, a no nonsense detector.

For general beach use to find man made rings and such, this is way overkill, but for really finding everything metal, I would go for ebinger.

If I Could afford it, I would get an underwater model from them. I trusted my life to their detectors daily for months and never doubted the equipment once.

I had the 420 series:

With a dynamic model, we wore able to determine which way a small 1/2" nail was pointing under ground. It was part of our battlefield clearance. They are quite cool those ebingers.

As for awesome technology, I would like to see any competition make headlines like this:

But GoldDigger1950 also got a good point. It will probably be cheaper and efficient enough to buy one made for your task. The ebinger I used was made to find land mines with metal maybe as small as half a normal pen-spring at a foots depth. You will find all kinds of confusing signals too, and it is really time consuming to clear a potential minefield for all kinds of metal signature. If you are to cover a large area fairly quick, cheaper models are probably to be preferred in order not to break the bank. Some days we spent a full day clearing only a few meters of area, if the soil was contaminated. Other days we would clear a mile each.

Garrett make one for about a $1000 and up and Minelab make three,

The reason they dont have Discrimination knobs is that all these machines are for use in life threatening situations,

1st, they start up by doing a self test and if all things arnt correct they will shut down, once they are good to go the controls are all but Void so that the opperator is not side tracked,

and they make differing sounds for differant items IE, finding a percussion cap at a depth of 14" to 16" deep to finding tank mines of up to 6ft deep,,

I Phoned Minelab about one of theres but they did'nt want to talk about it but they got upset when I told them that I had the brochers on them, and then they asked how I got them I told them and guess what it was them who sent them to me,LOL

but the one I wanted came with an 18" coil, that machine was the ( F4 UXO ) Huh? and they cost £27,000 but that was if I bought them in bulk,  Fat Chance,

The F4 UXO Looks Like the MineLab GP series of detectors only its Green  ( Olive Drab-FOR THE USE OF ) and the coil looks like an 18" version of the Minelab commander coils and it comes in the lovely color of Olive Drab too

They are POLO Coils Not DD or Concentic, but the whole GP/GPX range of Machines are the closest thing out there to them and at a fifth of the price or less and just as deep etc etc but most of all more Useable.

hope this helps,

The MineLab Relic Hawk is virtually Identicle to the F4 UXO But Please note that the Relic Hawk was redisigned and become the
Minelab Muskateer Advantage, and although that was a great machine, The Relic Hawk was the best of all there machines and there was another varient for gold detecting called the Gold Hawk or Golden Hawk,

heres the manual but the F4-UXO looked the same
