Go Up Go Down

Greetings to all,

I have a friend who's relative buried a big sealed waterproof bag with bundles of bank notes inside it around 7 years ago, he buried it in an old graveyard and has passed away in a road accident without having the time to let anybody know the exact location where he buried the bag....is there a detection method (geoelectrical detector, etc...) that would allow us to recover the funds?

Well there would be a way and that would be to look for a cavity in the ground but with a detector I don't think so unless there were some coins with the notes. You will have to do some research on the subject as I have never looked into it myself. Do let us know what you come up with as it could be an interesting subject. Just a thought I don't think people will be very happy with you digging up a graveyard.

All the best
Xavier

Maybe under the persons head stone ? might not need a detector but good luck  with that , people  get kinda up tight when you disturb things at a grave yard.

I'm afraid you're out of luck with current techology. Cavity detection can be done but cemeteries are full of cavities. GPR would possibly do it but banknotes are notoriously hard to locate. Again, you're dealing with what would look like a cavity to the equipment. Couple that with the worldwide taboo regarding digging in a cemetery and this treasure is probably safe for your lifetime. Perhaps in 500 years, archaeologists might come across it but the notes will likely be deteriorated. Contrary to popular rumors to the contrary, plastic does not last forever. In 20 years time, the notes will be soaked and rotting.

Your friend's relative basically assured that his funds would never be found by anyone but him.

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.

It's an abandoned graveyard...one thing that may help is that the bag containing the banknotes is quite big and the banknotes are in bundles, thee are quite many bundles.....I have done a lot of preparatory research on the subject and I have come to the conclusion that a top grade GPR with a good 3D software may locate the bag....I do know that it isn"t buried deep (less than 1 meter deep according to the relevant information I dispose of) and I also know approximately in which part of the graveyard the bag was buried...the graveyard itself is only 50 meters wide and 70 meters long....I am optimistic by nature, so I'm going for it come what may.

American Bills have enough Metal Treads and Strips in them that you have a Chance to detect a large Bundle.

Your money I don't think so.

Being in a Grave Yard, I would avoid it like the Plague.

Is there anyone in there that He Knew?

Abandoned or not its still a graveyard very disrespectful to go digging there.

French bank notes or print on poor paper stock to spend 7 years in the ground if ground water or rain water got to them they will be gone in less then 6 months.

Your best shot if you know the general area and depth is a probe.

No it's not LOL by the sounds of it you want to go look for some loot that 1) should not be in a graveyard 2) by the size that you describe this graveyard it's probably from some farmers family and personally I would not mess with that graveyard LOL Here is what I would do if I were you, go to the graveyard and look for any depressions in the soil that will be a good indication as to where it could be.
All the best of luck mate and by the way why did he hide it there? because he don't want you guys to get to it?

I had a good laugh reading your reply! Yeah, a graveyard is by it's denomination an inhabited place....the graveyard is not in "active" use anymore, and it hasn't been for many decades...it's not a family graveyard either and furthermore it's not in France...the ex owner of this "bag" hid it there because apparently he did not trust his country's banking system....I'm not "looting" anything sir, this whole thing comes from a request from his widow which is a person I know personally and to whom he vaguely indicated the approximate location of his buried money a short time before his death...it's her money and I have only negociated a reasonable % of the find, if find there is!
By the way, thanks for the tip on the "depression" issue...
Lastly, have you ever been told that you look like the 69' John Lennon?
Cheers.
