Huh?   Wow you seem to have some reserve there that you are willing to throw away.   Why do I say that?  Well from my perspective, to get anything out of the ground, one needs to be familiar with the machine.  Just owning the best doesn't mean you will be able to find what you are looking for.  Practice is needed, and I dare say the more you swing the better you will become.  What are you looking for?  What type of water, salt or fresh?
These questions are all readily answered by looking thru the pages within the different forum.  First, take your time and do research, define your needs and read what others have done before you.   Shocked

Aluminizer is right. A few other points... It's hard to make a decision just on what the value of the detector is. An expedition could just be going away for a couple days, or a couple weeks. You certainly want to do your homework - these threads have write-ups in them about all the different brands: Whites, Garrett, etc. LOTS of reading to do here!  Grin
You may even decide that you want to go with one for water, and another for land. If you're new to the hobby, maybe you don't want to invest a ton of money at first and try something as a good 'starter' metal detector first.
Once you have done your research - there's a company you may want to check out is KellyCo. They have great service, and several people in the forum have recommended them. Perhaps they may have the model you're looking for.
Good luck to you, feel free to ask more questions too.

Start by making a list of what you expect the detector to do for you.    How your going to be using one. Huh?
