I've used the old Arado 120. You had to stay right on top of the tuning, however it worked well. I'm guessing your referring to the 320. Looks nice but too expensive.... I think you could a better detector for much less with many of the other brands.

Johnnn.... I did well with the 120. If I got a real weak reading that did not swing +, I'd sit the loop close to the  reading then do a short scan over the item and if it was bad it would show bad.   If the needle stayed centered it more than likely was a deep-good reading.

I had the Arado 120 in the workshop a few months ago from a old customer , all that was required was resoldering coil connection, cleaning out battery acid where they had leaked and tighten the fixings around the control box, and got him a replacment instruction book it was good as new did tests in the test bed and quite impressed.
Something I did learn with them machines is they need to be switched on a good 2 mins before use or even touching any settings otherwise unstable then providing your on similar land you have very little adjustment to do.
I was going to build a clone of it but havent had the time yet, also the other thing  needed is accurate coil data, not just for the clone but for replacment coils because thats a fault thats now starting to cause problems with old machines, the shielding within the coils breaks down and theres no replacment available anymore, thats something else Arado never got back to me  with although saysing that getting data out of any of these manufactures is like getting blood out of a stone.

Regards

Hi John
Arado are still very much around, after the 120 they built the 180, after that they got out of the hobbie market for a few years consentrating on the industrial market, but then about 18 months ago produced and marketed the 320 its a limited quantity they are producing, price wise there around £1,500.
Google search Arado metal detectors sooner or later you will find there web page.
Theres a contact box on there to email them, hope you have more luck than I did.
Since last posting here I have for the 120, circuit diagram PCB layout and top board component layout, all I need now is accurate coil parameters, once ive got that going to build one.

Regards

Hi Dave,
You sound like you know about detectors, can you fix Arado's?? I bought one of mine a long time ago and it is virtually brand new, I unfortunately modified it for better handling by doing so it never performed in any way like it should, so I have this new machine that I can not use.
I never touched the inside circuitry but extended the external wiring  Sad it would be great to get it back again.
I can bring it over next time I visit the UK....HH....Johnnn

Hi John
Yes will look at it for you
So we are looking for a man made fault, When you say exstended cables I presume you mean the coil cable, if so did you use screened lead as the same as was already on there?
A common problem that can also arise when exstending leads is getting mixed up between the tx and rx coil windings.
Explain to me which wires you exstended and how you went about it as I may able to sort it out for you on here.

regards
