Go Up Go Down

Hi Everyone.
I know this is an age old question but here goes.
I'm iin the market for a new detector. Previous detector is an Explorer XS and I love it.
Now do I go for the ETRAC. SE pro or change brands. Don't think I want to go for the Dues. Have been looking at the Garrett AT pro and the new technetics range, trouble is there's that many out there and all the reviews say how good each is. Do I  stay with Mineelab or change brands? I do like the multi tones of the XS
I don't get many chances to meet other users and everyone seems o be going for the etrac. I watched a youtube film of the Garrett 250 and was impressed  but had that been edited to give the best results?
My detecting is mostly pasture land although would like to try out beaches (not that many too close)
Now retired and on a fixed income so I have to be careful with the cash and cannnot jump from one machine to another
Anyway any help would be appreciated
Rod

If I am correct I see you live in the U.K. where the soil is heavy mineralized. With that being said I would consider looking at one of the best all purpose metal detectors out there, the White's MXT or MXT Pro they are easy to learn work great in your soil conditions and on the beach and especially hot on gold even small pieces. The MXT has also been know to find coins at 3 feet. And the price on the MXT is manageable and wont cost you an arm and a leg. You can check out the classifieds section and see for your self. There are plenty of reviews available here on the MXT and a few people who use them and swear by them live currently in your country.

Thanks for your reply. That's another machine to put in the mix. So many good machines. Ideally it would be nice to try them all out but that's not possible. Think I need to win the lottery then I could have one of each.

G'Day Rod,  I sold my Etrac to buy my second MXT, I used both of them in the same junk filled area and the MXT smoked the Etrac because of the Iron and minerals in the ground and the other problem with the Etrac is that it can give you 9 or 10 sets of figures for an Item and they dont always match for the same item, Now I dont know about you but If I'm paying £1200 for a detector I think atleased the meter should spot on, So when I spoke to many minelab user's on their forum they just said take no notice of the meter, But I cant do that not for £1200, for that money it should give you weather reports too,
So it got sold and I bought the MXT Pro and had enough spare cash to buy 4 more coils for the MXT Pro, and another good thing is with a Whites you can work more effectively and at a better pace, good luck and if you dont know just ask and we'll be there for ya,

I have a programme that stops the nuling and turns the ET into a monster.
Tried and tested and it works.

Rich, theres no doubt that it has got the beans, but I got aload of progams from the pros at minelab but when it comes to some of the junk filled sites it does give a person grief, I found alot more in a shorter while and I also found that I got better target separation with the MXT but I would expect that because it has a faster processor and a faster tracking system,
I have no doubt that the Etrac is a wild piece of kit but just not in our iron infested sites,
