Hello Markwallace , I have Metal Detected at night only because it got dark and I didn't know when to quit !!! If you do not have a good outdoor flood light or halogen lamp where you are digging , you can damage your target when you dig . Night time Metal Detecting is ok in non-populated remote areas away from homes and utilities . I think Daytime Metal Detecting is the best , Safe for you and your Treasure !!!..............Best Regards.............Eugene52

Hi Markwallace

I somtimes go night detecting but usually up the footpaths or in the park not near any houses and not very late at night .  2 things the are handy, is a little light on a headband  like a miners light but not big like a miners light and I dont carry a pick or knife , I nearly always use a small brickies trowel  even during the day this is not a housebreakers or muggers tool . If there are people around walking or biking give them a friendly wave .   In the dark your metal detector still responds the same, you mostly work by sound it takes a bit more time to grovel in the dark . Half the fun is to get home and findout what junk youve cleaned out from the park .  lol

Hi Markwallace,
When I used to detect at night, I came up with a handy little device, I used a
halogen flashlight ( small hand size push button on rear of light ) and fastened a tactal light clamp to the shaft of the metal detector with the flashlight, I primarily used this for detecting on the beaches,,,,Best Wishes ,,Rob
