Does silver and gold sink into the soil faster than copper ? I seem to find wheat pennies in my yard but not any , nickels, dimes or quarters ! Any suggestions on what settings I could use for my Whites MXT . I'm desparately seeking silver !!!!!!!!!! No no! Exhausted

Depends on the soil conditions, and the coin attitude in the soil, and other stuff Wise, just make mental notes-or other kinds- whenever you find silver, and go from there= I don't believe there are any set standards, vary from place to place=even in your own yard, part of my yard is sandy, some clay areas, and some very rocky, it's all kinda iffy HH and good luck Wise

I was recently reading, somewhere, about how earthworms are partially responsible for items disappearing from the surface of the ground. All that tunneling, I guess. Sue

I don't know if you'll sink , but some studies have shown that you'll shrink over time ! My grandma was 6-7" ...now a measely 4-8"

Your Dead Meat!

Lead in your Butt?

I only got shot with Barley and Rock Salt while steeling Grapes one time.

The Rock Salt Hurts real bad RIGHT NOW, and the Barley takes a while to swell up and do it's thing. Tongue   Shocked

Everyone has been giving you some good tips but here's one you haven't read yet. Gold and silver are not magnetic so a field induced in them is due to electrical conductivity and not an internal magnetic flux alignment like in iron. Instead, a flux field is set up on the surface of gold and silver and a momentary magnetic field is set up in those elements making them a very weak magnet for an instant. When the detector transmit circuit shuts down so the receiver can "listen," the field collapses rapidly. With iron, the field stays there much longer and sounds much louder. Gold and silver often "whisper" in the headphones rather than have a pronounced return.

The best way to experience this is use a gold ring as a test target. Dig a hole a foot deep and keep the soil handy. Tie a strong fish line to a ring and bury it at the bottom. A good detector should pick it up but the sound will be something quite different than you are used to with clad coins or nickels. Pull it up one inch. Check again. Do that inch by inch until the ring is on the surface. By then you should have a good idea what a gold ring in the ground sounds like. Do the same with a silver ring. Do both with and without discrimination to get the best idea of target sounds.

After you have done this homework assignment, come back and tell us what you have discovered. Then, knowing what a gold or silver ring sounds like in the ground, go back and find the ones you missed the first time. Please be sure to tie a string to the ring because it could actually become lost during your testing.
