Go Up Go Down

In my area there are some old homes dating back to the mid to late 1800's.
This area at one time was made up up mostlly of Germans & Swedes. This town was founded in the latter years of the 1700's on the site of a large Delaware
Indian village overseen by Queen Alliquippa, a woman Chief. While most of the
original site is now covered by a downtown business district, my question is this,
In detecting an old home site where the original foundation is exposed, there is possibly 2 or 3 feet of soil before it hits clay, is it best to detect vertically from
inside or to detect from the ground level? And, can I expect any finds below the clay level?

Good questions.  I would advise to not readily rule out anything and try different things to see what will work best for you in this area.  All areas can be slightly different.  I have made finds in "clay like" material in certain places so it may be possible.  That's the beauty of the hobby.  You never know what you will find next or even where it will be found.

Keep us posted on your progress.

I was curious because some say objects usually don't sink below the clay level.
Don't know if this is true or not. Thanks for the advice.
