Hello , Most parks in  "cities" across the U.S. allow metal detecting but first , always check for postings or signs that may prohibit Metal Detecting ....... State parks are more strict and may require a permit , Most National Parks Metal Detecting is prohibited !! ... If you plan to go to a city park get up early and be ready to start Metal Detecting when the sun comes up , then there will be no one around to harrass you .... Hi markwallace,
I have never gotten harrased in a public park, I have been asked if I have found anything etc, etc, In this state ( Washington ) you can even detect in some state parks,
but there are alot of rules and regs on digging how deep, what to use ( a screwdriver only ) etc. and in some state parks here you cannot detect at all. and Federal Parks is a clear NO unless you want a free ride in a Federal Rangers car to jail!....Rob
