dx-1 inline probe is my choice, but again its depends on what you want to spend.you can make your own or spend anywhere from $20-$160

Whitetail,

I bought the Detector Pro Pistol Probe. It is a pulse style probe and will go about 6 " depth on most coin sized objects. Since buying it my recovery time has been virtually cut in half and if I were to hunt a nice yard I can use it to pinpoint with precision to cut a very small sod plug! Grin

I just bought the automax Precision V4. Not very happy with it mainly because of the size..way to big. Doesn't pinpoint deep either. Just my opinion.

the garrett pinpointer is really good.has range of about 4-5 inches. also has built in light.
runs about 125$. uses a 9volt battery and last pretty good.

The White's Bullseye II pinpointer works good.  The Fisher F-Point pinpointer not so good.

As has been previously mentioned, the White's Bullseye 2 is a fine pinpointer, and if you are more budget minded, the Cen-Tech brand can be purchased from Harbor Freight for around 15.00
While not top of the line, it works very well and is cheap enough that you can use one for a year or two and replace it.

I gave up on pinpointers. Every time I dig a target, the tip breaks off and I have to buy a new one.

Man - I wish I could get 5" out of my Garrett pro pointer on a coin sized object.
3" in the maximum for mine...and thats when using the "slide the coin down the barrell trick"
