GoldDigger, that Gold Snoop Pro does look like a good little machine.    I wonder how many "honey dos" I need to get done before my wife would let me buy one and import it into the US?

Next time we come over, I can bring one with me.

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.

I'd like an auto ground bal on a gold machine...like the Tesoro LOBO or that Australian Gold Snoop Pro.....and the White's GMT has one you just bump against ground a few times to ground balance--that'd be nice. But I have seen a field test using a GMT, a Fisher Gold Bug 2, and a Garrett Infinium on Youtube and Guess what it showed? The Fisher Gold Bug 2 was able to pick up smaller nuggets farther away from the searchcoil using an illiptical coil about 8 or 10 inches long than the GMT. The GMT did an adequate job picking up nuggets that were a little bigger, but couldn't do as well on the very fine pieces of gold that the Gold Bug 2 could pick up with no problem. And as far as the Infinium-a pulse unit, it was about like the GMT--it could only pick up the nuggets that were a little larger also. When I say larger, I don't mean very large, but it just couldn't pick up the finest particles of gold like the GoldBug 2.
One thing I like about the Garrett Gold Scorpion and the Tesoro Lobo is that they have dual functionality--they have prospecting modes and coin-hunting modes.  I've heard pros and cons on the Gold Scorpion...and my only hangup about it would be the 10-turn ground balance--Yuck!!! I hate 10-turn ground bals and manual ground bals in general...all that twisting and turning and you never know where you're at-ha!!! GIMMEE THAT AUTO GROUND BAL EVERYTIME!!!

White's GMT

The auto mode on the GMT is almost too smart for it's own good.  It's too easy to ground balance gold out of the picture if you hit a target and keep wiping it.  I prefer using the GMT in manual mode and grabbing ground balance as soil conditions change.  I keep a gold sample in my pocket that I can use from time to time to make sure I've not balanced gold out.  As far as it's sensitivity, I've filtered grain sized particles of gold at six inches with it.  More work than it's worth, but the thing is terribly sensitive to gold as long as you balance it right.

GD bring two! Smiley

Treasuremomo thanks I'll look for that vid. I already have a nice machine for coins so this one will be strictly for prospecting.
I have no bias as to manufacturers, just looking for the right tool for the job I wanna do so I appreciate the input all Smiley

Bigwater I think thats what happens with my DFX, I have a sample with a vien in it that I can't get to read. I'll look into that as well. Still kinda intrigued by the high freq machines just cause its different.
