In my introduction I totally forgot to ask if anyone can tell me how to construct my own search coil, I'm looking to make one about 5'-5'. light weight out of pVc pipe and then hook it up to a unit.

You need to go into the Tech Talk board.  We have a pile of info floating around in there.    Cool

Welcome from Perth in Australia. Not the one in Scotland.

Hooking up a coil of that size will work but not as you might expect. The amount of power required to develop a large field will not be available so you may be very disappointed. A machine with that size coil must have a very powerful output stage and an equally powerful receiver.

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.
