Talking to the Right People who have the information is important.
I like to take my dogs down to Kowawesie Park- known to the locals as Plumb Point. Originaly settled back in 1724 as a trade post, and traded with boats along the river. Soldiers during the Revolution walked and patroled up and down this area of hudson valley,
and then afterwards, becuase the next mountain range is Storm King & West Point Area. So i spotted the maintenance worker for the park talking to other older people on the shore
so i went up and asked him a few questions, and to make story short, he told me that even though Historical Markers are present in correct locations,
there not accurate. NYC came up river 30 years backs and took out 40 feet high of the mountain for the garbage fill!!
Plumb Point Area was 40 ft higher in the air then we are standing presently on the River Banks!
That means metal detecting here for historical stuff would have been totally a waste of time.
Great Spot, Right Historical Information, but man changed the environment once again.
So always best to check some kind of resouce before you metal detect an area, otherwise your target can be garbage, and a waste of time. GW HUNTER- OUT.
