Hello all,

New here. I have a Tesoro Compadre detector. My interrest is in gold nuggets in placer mine tailing's. The ground carries black sand and iron pyrite. Do I have a hope in *#!* of finding nuggets close to the surface? Hope to have some fun without spending several hundred $ more on an upgrade.

Thanks

The Compadre is a fabulous machine for most purposes and I have toyed with it in black sand. The sand causes it to warble instead of working in its normal silent mode. When I have used it, the black sand was near ocean water and as I pass over a good target, coin or ring, it gives a solid return. That makes it easy to pick out from the background warble.

Unless you live a billion miles away from the goldfields, give it a go. You have nothing to lose. Rent a known gold hunter if you must just to be sure you  don't waste your time. Then try it. I'd be interested in knowing how you make out.

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.
