Go Up Go Down

Homfire and I have been posting about the first metal detector we both had: The Crusader.  It was sold by an outfit in Oscoda, Wisconsin called "The Association."  It was a BFO (Beat Frequency Oscillation) unit and it sounded like a motorboat.  It had a switch on top and a tuning knob, didn't discriminate, no ID features, you had to dig everything!  It drifted terribly and had to be constantly re-tuned.  But I did find lots of good stuff with it and I also learned how to metal detect with it.  I had a lot of fun doing it with this detector!

#1 is the Crusader, #2 is a closeup of the box, #3 is the box disassembled, and #4 is the heart of the Crusader.  Enjoy!

That adjustable shaft was a little project I did myself.  It came with a fixed shaft.  If you adjusted it above null you found metal and if you adjusted it below null it would respond to hot rocks and minerals!  I played with that a little, too, when I was using it.  Detecting  Mine has just one battery holder.

Here's another shot of the top of the box I forgot to include.
