I have permission to search an old but still active crematory . Dating back to the 20's maybe further . Am I out of line here ? I mean no disrespect . Is this something others would do ?

Define "crematory?"
As in, the facility where cremations are performed?
As long as no remains are buried there, I don't see a problem.

With Permition & showing some respect I see no problem. I just hope past customers feel the same.

Maybe I misunderstood...

Are the remains BURIED there?

Or is this just the place the cremations took place?

Because a crematory is just a big oven where remains are condensed.
if there are no remains interred or memorial plaques there, it is just an oven.
The true spirit and idea of the person is not contained in the place where their remains are condensed.

However, if there are remains there, or it is a place for reflection on the individual, then no.

What are you going to search?

Here in deming, we have Bacas, Creamatorium, and I alway wondered what he had in the bottom of the pan.

Gold, Silver Teeth?

I know the bastard makes more money some how!

Your lucky if you get the bones, never mind the rest!

some detectors will actually detect old wood coffin graves by the change of the ground mineral change.
As for detecting in a cemeteries/crematories its a bad plan, Many small tokens/jewelry etc, are left on graves or buried by hand very shallow. The picking would be easy but you would be thought a grave robber.
The only exception would be for me is, if someone had lost something of value and with written permission from the cemetary board. Collect nothing but trash and said searched for item.
Feelings run really deep on this subject, maybe best to pass on it.

I should  clarify . The crematory is about 100 yards from the cemetary . I would never consider hunting a cemetary . The reason I would hunt the site is because of the old caretakers home and crematory for old finds past employees left behind . In no was would I disrespect the departed . Coins and jewlery....any artifacts would be returned .

Outside the crematory building itself, and away from the cemetery ?  With permission?  Personally I wouldn't have any more problems with that than I would hunting outside an old hospital, but that's just me.
