Go Up Go Down

I guess I'm posting the same old cliche; I'm new to metal detecting. I live in the north east (35 miles outside of NYC) and want to search for artifacts from the 1600's - 1800's at sites located throughout New England. The early part of my career was as a Communications Electronics Technician, so is it a better idea to build my own detector or should I just go out and purchase one? I haven't worked as a technician for 10 years, but I'm sure that isn't going to be a problem. I guess what I'm really asking is it cost effective to build my own and does the performance of these approach what you can buy off the shelf? Thanks in advance for your input.

You can buy a hellofa good machine for a few hundred now.

I like to build and get a kick out of it my self.

I've referbed a pile of machines and built a few.

If your willing and have the equipment to build one, Hit it.

Check out the Projects we have posted.

Thanks for the advice. Actually I have access to an electronics lab through a friend who is still in the field. So test equipment is no problem. I'm leaning toward building one, will be fun, plus maybe as I gain experience I can come up with a few mods. Thanks again for the advice. Keep in touch. George
