Go Up Go Down

Hi. I am extremely interested in getting a detector, but the more i research the harder it becomes to even know what I need. I am hoping maybe you all can help me to choose.
1.My main intrest is going to be diving ocean, river, and lake with my machine, However it will see more time above the waves(on the beach or parks) than under.
2. I am mainly interested in jewelry, coins, pins, buttons, and the like, but it would be cool if dont miss big stuff or really small stuff. Maybe some prospecting but if not oh well.
3. I think it will need to be a deep machine as we get a lot of current so the bottom can shift pretty severely.
4. My last concern is that while diving I will be in some areas with A LOT of debris. Under wharves possibly marinas, old dumpsites and public swimming/ gathering areas. I don't mind a bit of overdigging but obviously hunting for a ring or coin under a beer can feild is going to get trying.

The models I am interested in so far are: Minelab excalibur 1000
JW fisher pulse 8x
Garrett-infinium
Garrett seahunter markII
Any advice is not only appreciated but desperately needed.
Thanx in advance for any help I can get.

Hello,

here are some of my thoughts:

1. Never ever buy a JW Pulse 8X ! I've had one for several years. Mine was pre-owned  and its prior owners were the salvage divers of the late Mel Fisher.

The JW Pulse 8X is extremly expensive and extremly poor designed and constructed. Most average modern PI machines will outperform it.

2. The Garret Seahunter tends to leak. My friend Tony Wells has has several of them and they always started to leak.

3. If you plan on hunting a trashy site you will need a VLF machine with discrimination abilities.

This leaves only two machines to be considered: The Minelab Excalibur and the Fisher CZ 20. I think you can get both for around $500.00 - $600.00 on eBay pre-owned. Make sure to keep their seals oiled and clean so they won't leak.

Just my two cents  Cheesy though.

Hope it was somewhat helpfull.

Please keep us posted regarding your purchase.

Happy hunting & best wishes,

Christian

I would say that Christian pretty much summed it up for you very well in my opinion.

I don't know much about the CZ model he spoke of since i'm not very familiar with that machine nor have done much research on the unit.  I can however chime in with Christian about the Excalibur...The Excalibur is a very good UW unit in my opinion and comes very highly reccomended by many UW hunters that I have talked with.

Ultimately in the end you have to go with what you think is best and will suit your needs better.  Good luck and let us know what you decide to go with.

You're right Outback.  The tiger shark would be another good unit.
