i would try a smaller coil
maybe the in the manual of the detector you can find something about how to configure the detector in trash fields

What detector are you using? If it is a Tesoro, XP or Minelab you should be able to discrimate the iron well enough to only get the good signals.

Best wishes,

Christian

Basically, a small coil will help.

But an old TR detector, or a C Scope 770xd (and up) would do miracles in the dirt !

Bill Wyman's detector (a 770 XD with a 6" coil) would be of great help too.

Go Up Go Down

I'm in a mining area and there are tons of old abandon mine sites from the mid 1800s to mid 1900s.  I think everything miners had was iron and everything they were done with they threw in the ground.  My machine has a different tone for iron (low) than for non iron (high).  I run it in all metal mode and a slow sweep speed in these trashy areas.  I only dig the good repeatable high pitch sounds.  It seems that when I try to hunt with discrimination the machine is overloaded by all the iron.  I also use this on all the old parks that I thought were hunted out.  I run about 50% trash the rest is coins and have dug a couple rings (nothing good yet).  With my detector if there is a lot of iron and i discriminate it I it takes longer dealing with the false signals than just running all metal.  I run an xterra 705.  Hope this helps.
