Hi all hunters,

Does anyone know if any company makes a stand for the metal detector that keeps it in the upright (standing) position? I have checked a few websites but not seen any yet. I am surprised that it is not a common item. Even though my new F5 has a built in short stand that keeps the handle end a few inches off the ground, it would seem so much better to have it upright when you have to recheck a find. Plus I have already knocked mine over a couple of times with my foot while digging. I would like to keep it in like new condition rather than getting dirt imbedded in it and scratches on it. If I can't find one, I am going to see what I can come up with. I am very mechanical and it would seem a fairly easy task to create a very lightweight stand that would attach to the lower side of the frame, and hinge outward with the flick of the wrist.

Wouldn't that interfere with the metal detector doing its job Huh?

Not if it was made of non-metallic material and folded against the detector rod when not in use ( or at least did not extend past the width of the coil).

The only downside I have come up with so far is if you are using headphones. But I think an added coiled extension cord which can be had at Radio Shack or any electronics supplier could remedy that. The other downsides could be weight, but there are enough lightweight aluminum and plastic tubes that would be strong enough to easily do the job. I have been toying with some ideas and sooner or later will make a prototype or two. Interference does not seem to be a problem with the designs I have in mind. Thanks for the comments.

I found one. Kudos go out to this guy for inventing one. I found this on ebay. Not exactly what I had in mind, but might order one and check it out.

Way too complicated, mate. All you need is something to fill in the roundness area of the shaft making it flat. You don't really put it down for long. Why does laying it down trouble you? Looks to me like you are making a complex solution to something you could just get used to.

One of those tool clips screwed down to a small piece of plywood would do the trick. Clip it on and use it as a temporary rest.

Sometimes these little do-it-yourself projects take on a life of their own.
