When i hear people getting frustrated by finding more trash than treasures,my suggestions are as follows.reasearch an area to see if the place you are hunting had any past houses, buildings, schools, etc on them. If so , then work the trash first and then start finding treasure. I guess i do things the hard way because i figure if you use alot of discrimination on your detector, you will miss nickels, gold, and other items rejected by the settings.by cleaning out the trash, you will give not only yourself a better chance of finding a great keeper, but help someone else in the hobby to come back and find things too.I alot of trash for one big reason. I was hunting coins at a local school yard and my meter on my old whites
5900/di pro when i hit a large signal, which usually is a pop can. I dug it up and yes it was a pop can but with something extra.!! I found a can that gave me a large signalafter diging and digging, and inside the aluminum popcan was a gold ring solitare diamond 1/8 carat with 3 peace dollars inside. I would never have dug this signal with old habits. I found this at 4 inches. My meter reading and sound did not indicate any silver or gold. Since then I dig all signals where activity has been in the past. ; Detecting)
