That Garrett ADS Deepseeker is a great machine I  used one off and on for years, only problem I had was weight wear you out after awhile.

angelus  If you can't get it going start a thread and what problem your having with it and maybe GD Homefire or one of the other tech's can help you out.

I picked up an old Garrett ADS Deepseeker on Ebay and trying to get it working.  I researched this machine on the net and there was lots of great comments about it.  Some people say it is good as mid level machines sold today.

The absolute biggest problem that Garrett Groundhogs have is the battery connections. Make sure they are clean and not at all wobbly. Check the battery box and look inside the connector with a strong light. If they are at all corroded, find a replacement connector from AMP Corporation.

The second biggest failure in the Groundhog is their wires which may have become brittle after all these years. A year ago, I replaced all of mine, one by one, with great success. Want a free source of wire for the job? Grab an old, obsolete computer power supply and cut the wires from it. Lots of colors to use and the wires are good and flexible. This procedure is NOT for novices or the faint of heart. Before I did mine, I took detailed photos and lots of notes regarding which wire went where on both ends. I then removed each wire and replaced it with the exact measurement for each.

Go Up Go Down

I picked this Gold Hunter up a while back, a Groundhog 15khz model. One I have been looking for sometime....like hunting with older machines as they still produce.......been using them since the 1970's.

This particular detector, like many older machines had a few problems. One I already fixed was the contacts on the battery tray.
Once that was taken care of it was time to see if it would work properly. Popped in some 9 volts and noticed some audio drifting in manual mode but, stabilised in auto mode. Then there was a coil connector problem, that will be totally rectified when the 5 pin plug is replaced. The detector is still functional with the connector problem. The meter was also replaced, Garrett had them in stock.

I proceeded with an air test in both all metal and disc modes. The results were ok but, knew from past experiences the GH should perform better. When they came in at my local dealer you would always have to search thru at least 12 units to find one that is somewhat hotter than the rest. Some where kind of cold.......

Decided to change out 3 electrolytic capacitors. Reason being after 26 years they will tend to dry out. Performance suffers as well as other problems surface such as the audio drifting.

Two air tests were made, before and after the capacitors were changed. If you look at the chart, you'll see the improvement.
Identical batteries and settings were used. Used the stock 7 3/4" coil.

By the way, the 15khz Groundhog series always had better depth in TR disc mode than in all metal, while the Master Hunter 5khz series had better depth in all metal mode. The GH series was better for coins and jewelry hunting while the MH series was better for relic hunting.
