[hello]Hello everyone, it's been awhile since ive been posting, but up in the north with all the snow, not much i can hunt for. Rider I have two metal detectors and i do not believe there really suited for my finding American Revolutionary war items cast in pewter, brass and copper. I have the Garret Ace 250 and and old crappy whites. What would you guys recomend that is under a $1000.  Wise or do i need to really spend more. Thanks GW Hunter~  [fight]

I would think that your Ace 250 would pick pewter, brass, and copper items.   The folks I know who use them are finding lots of brass and copper.  You don't say what the "crappy" whites is, so I won't comment on that.   But since you asked looked at "relic" detectors in any of the major lines including Tesoro, Fisher, Garrett, and Whites.

Personally I only know what I have read about it since I don't have one nor do any of the local hunters I run with.   A key feature for me if I was hunting some where it either rains more than it does in Arizona or I was hunting in an area with lots of lakes and/or streams that I might slip and fall into (I can be a klutz sometimes) is the 10ft submersion claim.  That gives it an advantage over most of the current crop of competition.   A lot depends upon HOW dissatisfied with the Ace 250 you are.   The Pro should step you up a bit in all categories, but only you and/or time can decide how soon you are likely to be in the same boat again.

Thanks buddy, i appreciate your candiedness. I only hunt in the woods or in the grass, never the water. I am hoping someone would tell me about there experience with the Garret ATP and compare it to the ace 250. I noticed there is a discount site for metal detectors associated with this site, is the the best place and best price to get one. Thanks GW Hunter  Rider

Have you used the search feature to look up AT Pro?   I know there are a few members that already have them and have written about them.  Check what they've posted (remember to search the entire forum)....At the very least, you'll have some folks you can pm if no one else adds to this topic soon (although it is more likely to get a response from the general membership here than in the FAQ)

This may sound illogical to you at the moment but the lowest end detector will do best for relics. Going high end has benefits for some things but the trusty old Tesoro Compadre (or any Tesoro for that matter) is absolutely brilliant on relics, jewelry and coins. When it comes to relics, you want the best iron capable machine out there, not the one that discriminates against iron.

Look to the multi-frequency units which will give you the best diversity in target acquisition. When you run your machine, use zero discrimination. Try that with your Ace 250 first and see if you don't find a few more of what you are seeking.

The other question remaining is, do you really have targets out there at all? Your Ace may be telling you that there really is nothing to find.

you have good points, i'll have my Ace 250 on hand, she will be my back up unit>my old cam-padre. I ended up buying the Whites MXT Pro, this will also find iron but lower pitches and give me the different targets, not eliminating any  Clapp I am in ny and it has been raining out a lot, think i will try hunting tomorrow, since ground is soft.

I believe the MXT is the perfect choice and your Ace will be a fine backup. I'm envious now.
