I'm a treasure hunter.

I'm a metal detector hobbyist.

I'm a metal detectorist.

I'm a - what? What should we call ourselves?

In my latest podcast, I discuss several appellations and find that none of them are spot on. Can you help?

That's an age old question Dan. Back in the 70's when I started a treasure hunter was someone who researched and hunted cache's. The guys who hunt school yards parks and the beach were coin shooters and the bottle diggers and artifact hunters were relic hunters. Over the years the term treasure hunter has became a catch all for anyone that finds stuff and sales it for a profit. Even the folks that buy at garage sales and sell on ebay call their self THer's. NOT!
I don't use the term treasure hunter except in the company of other hunters around normal folks I refer to myself as a historical researcher or an artifact/ book dealer. In 40 years I have had a lot of bad experiences so prefer people don't know what I do its just easier for me.
