Man - I wish I could get 5" out of my Garrett pro pointer on a coin sized object.
3" in the maximum for mine...and thats when using the "slide the coin down the barrell trick"

The only thing i know that will get close to that is a sunray inline.
Personally for MY uses, I like to be no farther than 2" at most from the target.

I use a vibraprobe. It is pretty indestructable and sealed. Good for a few inches. I find that my hand sometimes gets a bit numb and I can't feel the vibrations. I use noise reducing headphones so can't hear it too well either..... Wish it had a light.
