Hello Ben! What a fantastic find! Eventhough the city I live in was established in 1230, the oldest coin I have found on nearby fields dates back to 1670. I would live to find a silver coin from the middle ages as well.

Congratulations!

Cheesy

Go Up Go Down

Coming home from work on Harbor Island in Tampa one day back around 1992, I saw an empty lot that had been cleared, so I pulled over, because it was downtown, there were no signs, and the coinmaster was in the trunk with good batteries.  In a short time I had scanned the areas I was interested in, and it was pretty clean sand from under a concrete pad poured in the 20's.  I found a musketball, a bronze nail of old type, and this coin, a last year of issue (366,000) 1838 Capped Bust Quarter, some sand included in Patina, but nearly mint state.  A good Day.
