My best are,

Two 1922 plain cents in the same yard.

A 1893-O Barber dime with some mint luster still showing.

I have found a lot of coins both ancient and modern
but I think most people would class this sovereign as one of my best  and it would have some value.

Don't know how much its worth though. Smiley

Angry Craig, I really can't beat this great coin. Amazing! Here's about the best I've come up with so far. It's an early Roman silver coin. Not big but very thick. I think it is worth $150.00 - $300.00

I remember finding my first Roman coin vividly, I was detecting on the site of a motorway that was being built not far from where I live. As I was swinging my detector I saw a coin laying on the ground right in front on me, ran my detector over it and sure enough my old C-Scope 1220 sounded off, picked it up and it was a roman coin of the Gallic empire, despite how badly worn it was the radiate crown was visible. Didn't even need a detector to find my first Roman, it was just laying right there on the surface. I was 14 or 15 years old.

Here's my second most valuable coin find, thought it was just another gold bottle top as I broke open the clod of earth it was hidding in:

Wonderfull!

I also can remember two occasions where I found an old coing lying just on the surface of a field. I wish this would happen more often  :Smiley
