Go Up Go Down

You're digging a beep in the park when a policeman approaches you.

What should you do?

In my latest internet radio show, former police chief (and current field editor for Lost Treasure magazine) Anthony Belli offers tips on how to handle yourself in an encounter with the law.

Tony goes on to outline the investigative techniques he learned as a police officer, and how you can apply them to metal detecting.

and click on the top pink button?  That should make the program about encountering police officers play on your computer speakers.  It begins with a list of Tony's qualifications, and then talks about how to react to a police officer (this part begins at about :52 seconds into the program).

Are you getting something else??

Okay, Xavier, I see what happened!

You listened to program number 37 (last week's show) instead of the new one, number 38.  If #038 isn't showing up when you go to

During my early years when i first got into detecting I have several encounters with the men in uniform.  Most are only curious to find out what your doing in those days.  Showing them a few old coins that you had found usually solved any problems and as I wasnt breaking any laws was allowed to continue what i was doing.

Cops are only doing a job and they have to check on anything that looks suspicious as long as your not doing anything ilegally and not breaking any laws or bye-laws you have nothing to fear.

Go Up Go Down

I have been approached by Police Officers about 3 times total and all went very well. Two were just curious about how my detector worked and both said they were going to buy one. The third said he owned one and gave me a great tip on an old CC camp where he had found an 1850's quarter. I think most of them are the type of people who would enjoy metal detecting and they, of course, do use them sometimes in their crime scene investigations etc.
