Go Up Go Down

why is it the folks in general will detect an area, for the sake of debate say your own yard, then go back over it and find things that could /should have been found the first time.
the ground depth should not have changed THAT much, the item didnt magically rise up from where it was.
so what was different about the ground ( wetter, drier, grass freshly mowed, colder, warmer)
was the settings of the detector different ( less discrimination, more sensitivity, less notched out)
how about your attitude did you feel like digging more, had a better understanding of your machine, new machine.

Fill me in, this newb wants to know!

Al when u find the answer to this I want to know also. When we bought this place I scoured every inch of it and took out a truck load of scrap and relics etc. now 8 yrs later here I am still finding stuff on this old farm.
esp a day after it rains seems to be the best time to go out and search this old red clay dirt.

Coils swing speed, coil height, and keeping the coil level with the contors of the land.
I'm sure there are many more factors that cause this but this is the basics of getting more hits.Once you learn to slow down your swing and pay attention to the position of your coil or at least in my case I noticed more solid hits.
The machine is only going to detect what you let it detect.  Shocked
I have read a bit on this subject and it is a basic mistake made by a lot of detectorist including myself.
As i said as soon as you slow down and really pay attention to the way you handle your machine and coil you should get even more solid hits....
Hope this helps someone somewhere...... Wink

Part of the reason is because once you have taken one lot of targets out you can go over it again and again because targets
get hidden by targets and the more you clear the easier it is to iD other targets, and alot of us are guilty of over powering
the ground and some targets are masked by the ground and targets along with the excess power our machines put out.
Add on a couple of days rain and you've got a whole lot more targets again

2. You missed it the first and second time.

3. You missed it the first, second and third time.

4. You found it because your learning your machine and know what to listen for.

5. As stated you moved the Junk that was masking the first three times.

6. Now Your Totally P.O.ed and Taking your time and doing it right!

Oh yea, It rained last week and the Halo effect is in your favor.  LOL!

Also If you use a machine with a lower frequency it will see the deeper targets and approaching the targets from a different angle
can cause this and the time of day can do this too, IE. The out side tempreture and air density can make things better or worse.

LOL, seems like its 50% skill and 50% just pure luck, almost like finding a $20 in a parking lot.
First it has to be there, second you have to be there, third knowing what to pay attention to.

Yep moisture seems to play a big roll also freeze/thaw of the ground pushes things up and down over the winter
