yes I agree.  The best way to hunt in winter is "move away from the snow".  I'm personally getting ready to move to Brisbane Australia. Leaving the four inches of snow that is now outside my door (and more to come today) and going where I can hunt any day...winter or summer.

Well, I fear that someone has left out the Brisbane banes of flies, shifting sands and the monsoon season from the travel brochures. You'll still have more than the average days of tolerable weather but "any day" is most likely out of the question.

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.

Im detecting in Germany with ground covered with 3-4 inches of snow. Unless its not colder than about 22 degrees, digging is pretty easy since just the upper ground layer is frozen. The snow is just making you loose some depth. Just can't wait for spring..

It doesn't need to be frozen to make the digging difficult.    Had a real nice day for detecting yesterday, so I took my Dad over to a lot I've had my eye on for a while.   Figured with the rain we had last weekend the ground should still be workable....boy was I wrong----couldn't get deeper than an inch or an inch and half through that concrete that passes for soil here.   (well, at least we had fun and I was able to give him some pointers).

Having fun and spending time with your Dad was all that mattered.
