I laugh at cold weather detecting. I am in SD and snowing like crazy right now. First thing I would have to do is shovel snow to get to the ground.  I wonder how tough it would be to dig threw frozen ground. ha ha  Winter here its like the tundra. I would imagine I could take the batteries out of the detector as it will be maybe April before can go again. My brother in law and sister own an electricians business and right now can`t even dig trenches with a trencher as ground is frozen solid.. I just love SD in the winter.(not)  Rich

Can't really comment on you lot over there as I've only been there in Summer.
Down here Winter is the best time for detecting and we often detect at night in minus 4 celcius.

The ground is cool and EMI is next to nil so you can hear even the faintest of whispers.
Summer here is too bloody hot so detecting is basically limited to night time and the cool of the mornings.

Cheers!

Go Up Go Down

Im in central Ohio and went out 10 or so days ago. We had temp in the high 30s then and found that when i would swing the detector and touch the snow with the coil it was soft and would stick to it. Made it heavy at times. Since then the ground is frozen and covered. I want to go but cant.

Well I live in Michigan and I gave it a try on a cold day befor the snow came, I got a few clads but my fingers had a hard time with the cold soil. I think I did find a good spot but it will have to wait till spring Sad
