OK first off I do not sale are work for the company.

Have you seen the razor edge diggers for land.
Priced from $30 to $40, that's and investment for sure.

Yes they work well, but the cost is killing me.
I'm not cheap just froogle.

Well low and behold, here you go.    Clapp

I was at meijer's dept store the other month.
In there garden tool section the have two diggers for sale now.
One by Fiskar brand with a plastic handle with metal knob end.
Another a Meijer's brand a plastic handle with a large round end. No blisters? (I bought this one.)

Both have razor edges, are narrow. There also very hefty and have a super strong blade.
That's right there called a digging knife with a sharp edge.
Blade a good 10 inches long.

The best part  the cost everyday is $5.
That's right $5, I could not believe it.

They actually look better made than the higher priced digger.

Just trying to pass along some savings.  Great

Hope this helps.  Smiley

"Meijer"  it's a dept store.  Like Walmart. There in Kentucky, not sure what other states?

Also at

Fiskars.com  but they show it priced for $8.99

I have broke 2 of these things. They are great for cutting through the sod but will snap where the plastic handle meets the blade. I contacted the company and told them of the design flaw due to a cheap tack weld. I took mine and replaced the plastic handle with a 8" long piece of 1" galvanized pipe with a threaded end with a cap. It looks like a weapon now but will not break and cuts through everything. Wink

Metalmaster, I got my Friskers at Walmart. $6.00 a good deal for such a tool If it holds up. Mine looks just like yours. First thing I did was take it to the old bench grinder. (there is no tool that can't be improved). I sharpened both edges and the notch at the end of the blade. This notch is my root cutter. I can cut roots up to 1/4 in with one hand now that the notch is sharp. I then notched the left side of it so that I could saw roots in both directions. Then I made a holster for it that straps to my leg. Like you say it works good but for me it is one of several tools I use. When the grass is even and I don't have to dig more than 3 inches I use a serrated case knife Its lighter and what i'm used to.  When the grass is course or if there are roots or gravel in the ground the case knife won't do and I use my Friskers or my sherpa digging tool. seen in my Avatar. If I dig more than 3 inches Use the shovel except in parks where I use the Friskers. I've used it to dig as deep as 8 inches with little trouble. If I have to carry only one tool I carry the Friskers. gambol

Nice idea Gambol like the case, and sharping worked good for you.

I guess you could break the handle its plastic, with enough pressure. But minds still OK.

For $5 or $6, I do not see how you can go wrong though.

Even if I lose it I'm ahead of spending $30 or $40 for the other diggers?

The price may sound nice but sometimes we get what we pay for.  Then again...at five bucks a piece all day long makes it a deal that can't be passed up by many.
