The board is ok, but needs some work. The top layer ought to be almost all coppered over with many ground connections. I think Andy planned this one as a 3 layer board. It would have been easier to copper the top layer and add a couple of air wires where they are bridges the top of the board now. As is, I am still working on the board and have put in a few air wires to finish many of the missing ground connections. I still need a few parts so I don't know if it works yet..

CHANCE problems

I fear you are correct - I have been working on mine this week and noticed missing grounds etc...
I fear I may have made a mistake on these, although I am still a bit confused
If a top layer ground is also required how is the one working shown below ?  I guess not using Andy_F board layout ?
If a copper top layer is used, I guess it is ok to use thru hole plating on every hole still ?

My apologies for anyone with one of these boards - lets work together and sort these jumpers wires out so we can get a working unit
I promise anyone who has purchased a board, once sorted and a new layout agreed, and if CHANCE works ok, I will get new boards made and
you can have a free replacement - I would have to ask for the $4 postage though

Finished putting it together and with the additional jumper wires it works!

Just a bit noisy....

Haven't field tested it yet. Still have to mess around with the housing. Found a half burned out minelab goldsearch with the 400uH half still working (works OK with the detector) but I am going to make a new and larger coil via bbsailor.

I changed the ICL7660S to an LT1054 for its much higher current rating and it is directly compatible. I haven't tweaked the damping resistor, which I think would be helpful (390 ohm is quite low). It detects an AUS $1 coin at about 15cm on a 20cm coil in air but I think it can do better.

Work in progress but looks like a good detector.

New CHANCE boards are here and working !!

I have added the boards to my shop, in the kit section I have also added the board with a preprogrammed Atmega, should you not have the ability to do your own. Full kits will be added in a few days.

A few more components have been added as well
