Go Up Go Down

Hi all, My Eureka Gold started a very high pitched sound on start up yesterday. It's been working fine and is like new. Batteries are fully charged. None of the controls has any effect on this except the on/off. Could it be the coil?  It's never been dropped or abused in any way so I'm at my wits end on this  Undecided    Thanks ............Rick

Hi Klutina

Electronic components mostly give when you turn on your machine. Unless you have a good background in electronics I would not suggest that you open it up but rather that you take it to an agent. Most of today's if not all electronics components used are SMT and to work with that is very complicated.

All the best and I hope that you get it fixed soon

Thanks for the quick reply Xavie!  I will take it in after a few checks w/ batteries. Worked great in Alaska and just kinda perplexed with this. I get remote sometimes and sure don't need problems when 30 miles or more from town. I'll post results good or bad. Again, thx........Rick in Yuma (for now) :-))

Some times just a bit of vibration can cause a wire to break loos or it could even be a bad solder joint that now gives problems after the transport, never know what it is you open it up.

Yeah, I've been lucky I guess as no problems till now. Been back in MANY miles in Alaska hunting and prospecting and kinda took it for granted! At least I'm near civilization now. Later........Rick

Well, I took the rechargeable battery pack out and put the 8AA reg battery pack in and it seems to have helped stabilize things. However, it still wants to give the very high pitched sound intermittently. So, it seems to be a power issue or contact problem. I'm charging the NiMH pack right now and will try it again soon. Might have had some bad AA cells in the 8pack power. If the NiMH pack clears it up. I'll try 8 new AA's and then I should have it. Will update w/ good results soon hopefully :-/    All the best..........Rick

P.S.  When my 18000 Ml batteries get weak, it gives a quiet "beep" about every minute. Can't imagine what the constant screaming is about on the Eureka Gold ,as it would take more power to scream than to run the detector. Oh well.....we'll see.

I have the same problem on my PI if the voltage drops below 10.5 Volts (which it should never do) it starts to wine and beep and do all sorts of funny things, the problem on your detector could come from a voltage regulator that is under powered, for things work correctly they needs the correct power at all time, a voltage regulator will require about 2V more that the output voltage. You could measure the battery pack once the detector is switched on just to see what the voltage is then turn it of and look at the voltage again if the voltage reads 10v when off and reads 6v when on you know that you have a battery problem.

All the best

Hi Xavier,  well,  still have the problem however, it comes and goes. All the batts are OK. So guess it's in the box. Unhooked the coil and it continues to beep like a target only not steady and not over metal.  Took it out looking for gold and it started  the whine so I used my trusty 18000 instead. Guess its going to the repair shop when I get home to missoula  Montana.  I,all let ya know what happens. Thanks........rick
