hi GD, I guess the question is did your home build come any where near the spec of the commercial product (or maybe it is better?). Am I chasing the holy grail?
hi Ruswat, thanks for your advice, and you have mentioned wasting time with free PI circuits. But where did you get these free circuits from? I cannot access anything on this site till i have got 15 posts under my belt!
hi Homefire, thanks for the advice. Where do i get the info to build a PI detector? Apparently i need 15 posts before i can get any info from this site and there may be a little time before i reach that figure!
What sort of detecting do you get up to in New Mexico? Many years ago i travelled round Mexico and found the population to be so friendly and helpful. If I had a detector at that time i think i would have discovered plenty on the beaches of Matzatlan (maybe i have not spelt this correctly!)
hi Seldom, am I correct in thinking I cannot access any of that info till I have clocked up 15 posts ( but I am working my way up on the tally!)
Cheers Climpo.

Hang in there!

There is a pile of circuits out there to mess with.

If your not sure about your building skills, you may want to started with a little BFO circuit.

You and most of the metal detecting world are on the same page, mate.

There was a rather long thread here which you can comment upon if you wish. It had to do with the ideal detector and what features it would have if such a beast could exist. Based on that thread, you'd have to strap a PC on a pole with a switchable radar, sonar, VLF/TR, Pulse Induction with GPS and data logging machine incorporated.

But that's the fun of designing a dream machine. There were many replies to that topic. Read them here:

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.

Can't wait to do my own detector. This is uncharted territory for me.

Can anyone direct me to the complete set of plans and build list to make a complete detector? What is the best one (plans or kit) available to do serious metal detecting? Serious being ... not the off-the-shelf toy at radio shack or the base models from a manufacturer?
