My name is Johnny  nice to meet you all...Looks like a great site lots of project ideas, I have had the prospecting bug on and off again for years started off with a Radio Shack detector and was using a garret last year but I have been doing a lot of reading on the sidelines and interested in gold detecting primarily.I would luv to get a gpx 5000 but .... from what I have read the old  SD2000 was and is still a great machine for a fraction of the cost. I am going to build a sd clone since the patent has expired and cortana zed has reverse engineered the schematics and there just so happened to be artwork on the site so new boards are about halfway done except for the audio. I am going to put in a couple of extra xtals   better zener and max4066  takachi makes a really nice box for the guts  still thinking about coils anyway, Wink cheers

still thinking about coils

Welcome to the forum, and good luck with your project.
But remember this is not a project for the beginner.
You can always buy a coil for an SD2000 to start with.

thank-you for the warm welcome arfieboy  looks like you are in a nice part of the country

I like it here!  I'm in the mountains of northeastern Oregon on the edge of Oregon's largest gold producing areas.  Lots of old mines and camps.  Several of the mines have been re-opened in last few years.  Some of the old mines have been small time continuous operations for year.  Lots of placer and lode gold throughout the area.  Did a little panning back in the day but I never found much.  Enough about me.  Great area to live in.
