Does anyone who owns a GPX5000 ever use it on the beach? The manual said there is a "Salt/Gold" setting for the beach, but I was wondering how well it actually works. Does Minelab have a waterproof search coil for the GPX series (all that I have seen are not waterproof)? How deep do they go on coins and rings? Thanks for your help.

The Minelab GPX 5000 will hunt in any setting. Its truly a all around any type of condition machine. The depth is incredible!!

Thank you for your reply. Could you please give me some idea of the depth of some common targets on a typical beach? $6000 is a lot of money and I don't want to spend it for a few extra inches of depth. Thanks again.

The GPX5000 is about the deepest going machine on the market. However I think it is NOT an all around machine but is limited to special tasks where it will however outbeat any other machine. It should be used in rural spot with little to no trash both for deep cache / relic hunting and finding nuggets. Using it on the beach will likely drive you crazy.

Best wishes,

Christian

Thank you very much for the reply; it is greatly appreciated. I was just hoping to find something that will go deeper than my Fisher CZ and my Whites Dual Field on those beaches that are "sanded-in". Sometimes it is hard to wait for the storms to clear out all that extra sand. Keep up the great work on the website as a lot of people benefit from the combined knowledge of this wonderful community of treasure hunters.

I think having both your Whites and Fisher you are very well equipped. For example the (old) Fisher CZ-20 / 21 still remains about the best submersible discrimating machine that is out there even after 20 years. It's so good I actually got three of them Smiley

for use in water  should take coiltek waterproof series or detech they are all waterproof.Coiltek are  sensitive and likelihood to find and thin goldchains and earrings is great.Finding rings is irrelevant. The price coiltek is 2 and if only for the beach beter Detech if looking for gold nuggets and coins Coiltek
