We're getting closer. I can smell it. I don't think, even if you have the wrong part, that it will be unusable. I think a rewiring will do the trick to make it work. Minelab has always tried to make every machine unique to the end user to sell more accessories. If they're not interchangeable, you can't buy second hand very easily. You have to go back to them. From a design standpoint, it means nothing if all the factory has to do is wire a coil differently and put on a unique sticker for a part number. From a marketing standpoint, everyone who wants a spare coil has to order one rather than swap between themselves or sell a used one.

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.

Ok Golddigger1950, Here's the full email I sent and Woody's response back to me about the coil.

Sounds like the transmit coil resistance is too low or the cable is shorted in the plug. These coils contain a rx amp and it is near impossible to work out if it is faulty or not.

Subject: CoilTec WOT Coil questions GoodDigger1950 refered you to me

My name is Mark Mayse. GoldDigger 1950 refered me to you.  I bought a 15"WOT coil on Ebay last winter. It stated it was for a Minelab Sovereign. My detector is a Minelab Sovereign XS-2A Pro. Well I charged the batteries connected the coil and the battery low signal comes up. I replace it with the stock 10" coil and the batteries show full charge again. My coil looks like the orange one in this pic I found online

The bottom of my coil is made of a black epoxy. The top is orange like the pic and also has no markings or stickers on it anywhere. I have a electronics degree and live in Indianapolis, Indiana. Can you give me any advise as to how to determine if its fake, shorted out or just not made for a Sovereign. It does work on my detector but the battery low indicator is tipping me off that somethings up. I can rewire it if it needs modded.

    Thanks for reading this
I'd really appreciate any feedback you can give me

Woodie knows his stuff. I'd ask him if it is repairable and how much he charges to fix one if it is. Either that or you can contact PayPal and see if they will help you get a refund from the seller on eBay.
