Hi,

powerfull and reliable power source for a metal detector is problem. The most convenient solution seems to be use of Li-ion cells.
Inspiring idea can be found at

Bye,

f.

I have never had any problem with the standard 9v set up and they last for ages.
The idea of having re-chargeabe Li-ion looks good on paper...But lashing a much larger battery elsewhere
detracts from the total concept of the Tesoros compact design.
For the cost of a Li-ion battery and charger etc it would be be FAR easier/cheaper to buy some re-chargeable 9volts and a charger....and would easier on eye.
However...if you could find a smaller Li-ion that would re-place an AA battery pack that would be a far better idea.

Re-chargeable 9V battery is usually a Ni-MH type with limited capacity, maybe 220 mAh. The difference between Ni-MH and Li-ion is almost the same as between carbid and LED lamp. Smaller mobile phone Li-ion batteries (of 1.5+ Ah capacity) can be used if you are able to adapt them for MD purposes. I use cells from older laptop batteries (2.2 Ah capacity) what costs me nothing and recharge them may be three times for the season. I am aware that battery is after coil the second most important part of MD, strongly influencing MD features.

here`s an idea, i own a tesoro and a good thought was a 9volt lithium battery, they last 5 to 7 times longer than regular alkaline batteries, more expensive $9 on average, so my last 9volt lasted close to 30 hours, = 150 hours vs 30 & the cost $4 vs $9 so for the cost of $20 of alkaline batts vs $9 , myself i would go for a lighter alternative, but each to his own........ Cool

Environmental aspect of MD should be taken into account as well. The less thrown away batteries, the better.
