Automax Precision V4 Pinpointer Modification Improvement !

Where you disappointed after you received your new pinpointer?

Wished you could have more distance for a response to metal finds?

How about being able to double the response distance, plus have
a sensitivity adjustment that worked?

This is what I did to my Automax V4 Pointer. After I got disgusted about the short range to find targets. Plus the lack of sensitivity in response to targets.

I made these following changes.

See attached photo of before and after pictures.

In the before photo I used a small ring of solder cut to length. It was the right size for a snug fit to the pinpointer shaft.
Slide the lead ring on to the shaft up to the control box. Turn the pinpointer on as usual and adjust till Buzz then back off on sensitivity till buzzing stops. Now slide the solder ring forward on shaft till it buzzes again. Slide it back till it stops. Note the difference in distance of these two positions and divide in half. This is the position to a fix the solder ring to the shaft. Use a hot melt glue gun to fasten ring in place. The hot melt glue is water proof and strong enough to handle rough use. Now adjust the sensitivity as normal and back off till buzzing stops. The distance is now doubled to response of targets. Plus you will now be able to fine tune the distance to targets.

Quarters and pennies at 2 inches in distance now. Larger objects at 3 to 4 inches. Plus you can back off the sensitivity for less distance as desired.

Hope you find this helpful.   Welcome

Stands to reason this would work well. I havent tried it on my V4 yet, I'll tinker tonight myself and see what I get as well. I have done the nickel trick on a Pro-pointer and it does get better range.

I am on my 2nd v4. The 1st came apart when I was wiping down the thing and the sections came apart and wires everywhere. Kellyco sent me a new one. When trying to tune this one, it only has a very little spot to silence it and Kellyco said that was fine. I am going to try your idea and see if it helps that. Thanks for the posting!!!!!

If you remove the belt clip, by the two assembly screws holding it.

Underneath you will find a hole.    Wise

If you use a very small flat blade non metallic screw driver. Inserted into
this hole at the bottom is a range screw to set the fine adjustment range to be used by the control
knob. Its a course adjustment for the fine tuning on the outside.

Hope this helps.   Welcome
