I would go with Nicad cells.   Yes they have a lower voltage.  Not to worry.   They keep it longer.

Your machine would not know the differance.

NiMh self discharge and have NEVER had luck with them.

The self discharge because of make up.   Taking them out will not help.  Junk I say!

I bought a Makita Drill and the batteries have to be charged the same week you want to use them.

No when I remove the one from the pack they last no problem but if I leave them in the camera a few days they are dead Could I be having a problem with the camera? (Cannon A640)

Most likely the camera is using a small amount of current to keep the RTC (Real Time Clock) going.

The ones I recommend are a true 9.6v battery rather than the 8.4v that most top out to. Vapex brand. NiCads don't self discharge like NiMh batteries do.

Speaking of self discharge, these guys cost just about twice what ordinary NiMh batteries cost but they come fully charged and will maintain a charge of 80% after a year. They work great in cameras. Eneloop.

Yes, I know both links are in Australia but that cotton picking Google won't let me search world wide any more. Creeps.

Why?

I have no idea. Now, no matter how I enter it, Google comes up with the .au extension and I no longer have an option to do a worldwide search. According to a friend of mine, it has to do with localizing Google Ad Words.
