With all the knowledge we have from our members, has anyone found a better alternative to using 2- 9v batteries in their detector? I saw a thread using a PC battery addon. Do rechargeables last long enough to make them a viable alternative to alkalines? Ive been buying walgreens alkalines in a 8 pack for around $12 they last a long time and is the best deal Ive found on them so far. Would a home made AA pack be better?   My fisher F2 takes 2- 9v and the batteries last around 40 hours or more using headphones.  Throw me some ideas please, or links to a how to add on.

not sure, but I could rig an external box to it. Adding a little wieght wont hurt it, its lighter than hell. Thanks for the reply, I know we got some members that are really good with that stuff.

Ive been leery of trying rechargeables, they may not put out enough volts to make the MD operate correctly. And being stuck with a $50 9v battery charger and batteries that I have no use for other than my MD"s would suck! lol

I have alot of AA  and AAA rechargeables and a few chargers, I use them alot, but in high drain devices like my camera, they just arent practical, so I dont know how they would work for a MD

No Room for added batteries.

Most detectors use one battery for Audio and the other for Detection Circuit.

Not having the schematic, We don't know.

You may try to use two AA battery trays jumped to the battery compartment.

If your handy , you could use two old battery shells to make adapters that fit in the battery compartment.

That way you could always go back to the Normal configuration.

Mount the AA battery trays on the shaft some place?

Just a thought.

Two Six cell holders for AA batteries would give you a pile more time.

I saw in another thread taking the case apart involves peeling back the face plate to get at 2 screws under it on each side, I'm not wanting to do any peeling to get the case apart lol. I can get to the battery compartment without that and make jumper wires to an external batty pack

It's like Homefire said no schematics no can tell but the 2x9v could also be used for a ground (probably is) don't start hacking away at your MD rather have some spare batteries. I would go for rechargeable one's you may find that your detecting time will go down a bit due to 1.2v instead of 1.5v on MiMH batteries but definitely worth it like you said you have 40 hour on a set of batteries so where's the problem of recharging them when you get home?
