The plastic attachment "ears" on my Compass search coil both broke at the holes.  Sad  I'm wondering what the best kind of glue or epoxy to repair them would be, ideally something that would would return them their original strength and be impervious to immersion, temperature changes, bumps and bangs, etc. Any suggestions?  Huh?

You have to determine what kind of plastic to select the right glue. Some plastics can't be glued. If you are stymied, you can always cut off the remaining flange bits and add new ones with epoxy and fiberglass. Not too bad, as far as added weight.

Something you could try, JB Weld, that works good.

Is JB Weld metallic? I'm concerned about the "liquid steel" ingredient.

If you are sure that you are not going to hit the coil then drill a number of small holes in the casing for added acreage of the epoxy or resin if you are going the fibreglass route.

And stop using it as a plough  Grin

Touch? on the "plough" comment. Funny  Actually, I do try to avoid plowing with the search coil. The damage occurred when I slipped and fell, banging the stem against a log.

Ouch not nice but then things like that only happen to people who are active I take it that there is no way to open the casing if you could open it with out further damaging it you could use some L shaped plastic cut to the right size then some plastic screws with plastic nuts and for added security a blob of epoxy on the nuts or lock tight. Do you know what is the coil configuration?

JB Weld is a hard epoxy, you can get it at most hardware stores. It comes in two tubes that you mix together, but it sets quickly. There are other things to try, also. There's a company that sells coil heads, just the top and bottom pieces, to replace broken coils. Here is the link to their web site

Xavier, I'm not sure what you mean by the coil's "configuration." It's just the factory Compass coil (see picture attached to my original post).

Homefire, those Ridout Plastics adhesives look promising. Anyone know specifically what kind of plastic the ears on a Compass search coil are made out of?

mdiede57, do you know if JB Weld is metallic or not? It has an ingredient called "liquid steel." And thanks for the Hayes Electronics link, but I trust this small external damage to my coil can be fixed without replacing the casing.
