I've used the ABS type on many a coils and it worked.

You can get it at better hardware stores and don't need to order it.

As far as I can recall you get two types the one used for metal called liquid steel(dark grey) and it is metallic and then you get the plain one used for ceramics plastics and so on (it clear)

As I posted in another forum, I'd re-engineer the ears with small wood blocks, and use a marine epoxy to glue them on the pieces that are left on the coil (besides drilling them and bolting with plastic bolts to the flange pieces that are left). Generally plastic repairs like this simply do not hold up. But if you do wish to proceed, I'd use some fiberglass cloth on the outside of the plastic flanges and build that up with the epoxy.
