Hi everyone, I'm going to build a coil this winter for my F2. a 12" concentric is what I have in mind. My question is.....while I'm out and about this summer,  can I scavenge the wire I need from other electronics so I dont have to buy it later?  I have no clue how much wire it will take, or the size.Is it practical to find the wire I need?

The Yoke from  a old TV may be enough.

Buying New Is the best.   Not that much money.

Yes, you can salvage wire from all sorts of things. You will need a micrometer to measure your wire so that you can use the formulas that will help you calculate windings and etc. Knowing the diameter of the wire is essential to determining the gauge of the wire and thus the inductance.

It's not that hard to do and magnet wire is not all that expensive so just consider buying a roll instead of salvage. One thing that happens when you salvage is that the insulated coating may come off from the wire. This can cause you no end of trouble both in the actual winding of the coil and the end result.

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.
